Manager, Legal Services (Corporate/Commercial)

 

Overview

Do you have a strong passion for providing corporate and commercial legal advice with respect to public procurement processes? Do you want to mitigate legal risks and support clients in achieving operational goals? We are looking for a Manager, Legal Services (Corporate/Commercial) to join our Legal Services department at WorkSafeBC. This is a critical role for someone who excels at drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts while providing advice to internal departments to reduce legal risks at WorkSafeBC.

How you’ll make a difference: You’ll ensure WorkSafeBC is serving stakeholders across B.C. effectively.

Where you’ll work 

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond Office at a minimum of three days per week with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C. 

What you'll do

  • Carrying your own file load to deliver corporate/commercial legal advice to internal clients, including health care departments.
  • Managing corporate counsel and/or articling students.
  • Being responsive to and establishing collaborative working relationships with internal clients and departments to provide legal solutions that meet WorkSafeBC’s needs.
  • Working with client groups, including Procurement Services, to continuously improve service delivery.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable legislation in commercial contracts
  • Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

  • Is trusted to provide legal advice that is practical, timely, and includes options for internal clients to achieve their desired outcome.
  • Is capable of demonstrating skills in leading and planning, as well as explaining legal information in plain language, adapting communication style to suit the audience.
  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders while exercising sound judgment and independence in completing assigned work.
  • Constantly strives to grow and develop as a lawyer.
  • Takes an outcome-oriented and problem-solving approach with clients and team members to resolve an issue.
  • Can interact with management, peers and clients in a confident, professional and objective manner.

Your background and experience 

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience practicing corporate commercial law.
  • A member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
  • Experience with public procurement and/or health care contracts is an asset.

Salary: $153,770 - $186,830/annually
