Manager, AI Operations

 

Overview

We’re looking for a Manager, AI Operations to shape the future of WorkSafeBC’s AI infrastructure and operational capabilities. In this role, you’ll lead the strategy, planning, and delivery of AI systems, including agentic AI technologies such as copilots, autonomous agents, digital assistants, and Generative AI solutions. You’ll oversee the governance, deployment, performance, and continuous improvement of operational AI platforms, ensuring stability, scalability, and responsible AI practices across the organization.

As a key leader within the Enterprise Platform Operations team, you’ll build and manage a high-performing AI operations team, guide the evolution of AI infrastructure, and ensure WorkSafeBC staff and business units have reliable, secure, and innovative AI tools that enhance decision-making, efficiency, and workplace safety.

What you'll do

  • Define and maintain the AI infrastructure strategy, architecture, standards, and operational framework.
  • Manage AI Operations teams, including engineers, analysts, and support staff, to ensure effective and reliable AI service delivery.
  • Lead the operational management of agentic AI systems, monitoring performance, accuracy, and business impact, and coordinating incident response for anomalous or unsafe AI behavior.
  • Transition pilot AI initiatives into stable, scalable, and governed operational environments.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools to measure AI adoption, usage patterns, and value realization across business units.
  • Implement and manage processes to ensure high availability and rapid service delivery for AI workloads.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, privacy, and legal teams to uphold responsible AI practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies for AI systems and align with Business Continuity Planning.
  • Work closely with Application Development, Enterprise Data & Analytics, and Solution Architecture teams to ensure AI services meet evolving business needs and follow enterprise best practices.
  • Oversee budgets, manage cloud infrastructure usage, and optimize costs in alignment with FinOps principles.
  • Consistently model the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

  • Lead and manage technical teams in a complex, service-based environment with high reliability and uptime requirements.
  • Balance strategic planning, operational execution, and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Translate emerging AI technologies into practical, scalable solutions that deliver measurable business value.
  • Navigate governance, regulatory, and ethical considerations for AI adoption.
  • Develop and manage budgets, resources, and vendor relationships efficiently.

Your background and experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Business Technology, or a related field (master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 8 years of directly related management experience in AI, data analytics, or technology operations in a complex, service-oriented environment.
  • Proven experience leading AI or technology teams and operationalizing advanced systems with 24x7 uptime requirements.
  • Strong understanding of AI technologies, agentic AI, Generative AI, cloud computing, and responsible AI practices.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple teams across large organizations, including cybersecurity, legal, data, and application development.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Salary: $139,423 - $169,399/annually
