The Internal
Audit department is looking for 2 (two) Data Analytics co-op students who are passionate about applying
their knowledge and skills in data analytics, automation, and artificial
intelligence to enhance the quality, impact, and relevance of internal audit in
a rapidly changing business landscape. You will work closely with data and
innovation teams to integrate emerging technologies into our audit engagements
and processes under the supervision of the Audit and Analytics Lead.
This role is for
a 4-month long work term starting August 31, 2026.
How you’ll
make a difference: You’ll
help ensure WorkSafeBC is accomplishing its objectives by evaluating and
improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance
processes.
Where
you’ll work
At WorkSafeBC,
we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices
based on the operational needs of the position.
In
this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond Office with some
flexibility to work from your home in B.C.
On Day 1 in this
role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your
team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological
essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll
setup.
During your first
week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip
you for success, including becoming more familiar with internal audit. You will
be partnering and meeting with your manager to discuss your goals and align them
with the team’s vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department
contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization’s
mandate. You will also work through the onboarding program alongside your
manager for added guidance and support.
This role is ideal

looking for someone with a forward-thinking mindset, strong motivation, and a
passion for innovation. The right candidate will possess analytical and
critical thinking skills, enabling them to propose ideas that enhance various
processes and initiatives to execute audit engagements more efficiently and
effectively.
Your daily
responsibilities may include the following:
- Extract and transform data from a variety of sources using tools,
such as SQL, Python, Power BI
- Analyze entire datasets to identify risks, anomalies, trends, and
potential control failures, and support continuous monitoring
- Automate repetitive audit tasks to enhance productivity (e.g., data
preparation, repeatable tests, and draft workpaper/report outputs) by building
and maintaining reproducible scripts, prompts, and templates in line with
established documentation and quality standards
- Provide data visualization through dashboards to provide deeper and
actionable insights
- Collaborate with other WorkSafeBC departments to implement
artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies to enhance audit
efficiency and effectiveness
- Share learnings and provide hands-on support to Internal Audit team
members when using analytics and automation tools (e.g., explaining outputs,
documenting steps, and helping with tool adoption)
- Perform other related duties as required
We’re looking for someone who:

confidential data
- Effectively collaborates and interacts with a
range of stakeholders
- Demonstrates teamwork and organization skills,
and is detail-oriented
- Is curious, receptive to learning and willing to
ask questions
Your background and experience
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree
in business analytics, data science, or related discipline
- Working knowledge of data analytics and
visualization tools, such as SQL, Python, Power BI, and Tableau.
- Exposure to artificial intelligence and advanced
data analytics and visualization tools (e.g., large language models, machine
learning, automation, or prompt-based tools) through coursework, projects, and/or
co-op/internship experience
- Exposure to internal audit, risk management and
internal control
- We’ll consider equivalent combinations of
education and experience.
